“I’ve found that when you think of the other fellow only and not yourself, your own problem fades into insignificance; in unselfishness lies the real thrill of being alive.”
- William A. Hadley, founder
Since
1920, The Hadley School for the Blind has provided free distance education opportunities
for people who are blind and visually impaired, helping them lead independent
lives.
Today there is a greater demand for Hadley’s programs, as the number of blind premature infants and senior citizens with age-related vision loss is increasing. We continue to expand and update the curriculum by offering more online courses to allow students to keep pace with the changing world and their needs. Hadley's experience and expertise in distance education make it uniquely suited to provide accessible educational opportunities for blind and visually impaired individuals.
Hadley's mission cannot be achieved without securing additional financial resources. On average, Hadley spends $5.5 million annually to maintain the quality of its current staff, courses and services. Yet, we recognize the need to provide more programs to our students and the increasing cost of maintaining our standard of excellence in student service. Hadley's current endowment provides approximately two-thirds of its annual operating costs, with the remaining one-third coming from private, corporate or foundation donations. Hadley does not seek governmental funding.
By making an outright donation, a gift to our endowment, a life income plan or by including The Hadley School for the Blind in your estate, you can help us serve those who turn to Hadley for assistance in adjusting to sight loss.
There are several ways to make a gift. Examples include:
If you would like to talk to us about making a gift to the school, please call 800-323-4238 and ask for the Development Department. Your call will be confidential and completely without obligation.
